Taking Apart the $819 billion Stimulus Package
Source: www.washingtonpost.com
The centerpiece of President Obama's domestic agenda is an $819 billion economic stimulus plan. The Senate will consider the measure this week, with an eye toward the amount of tax cuts and spending. Republicans and Democrats spar over what to consider a tax cut. An analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office tallies the tax-cut portion to be significantly less than the one-third Democrats claim it to be.

Job losses: Worst in 5 years
Payrolls sink in February, fueling recession anxiety. Unemployment rate declines, but that's because there are fewer people in the workforce.
Source: Chris Isidore, CNNMoney.com, March 14, 2008
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Employers made their deepest cut in staffing in almost five yearsin February, the Labor Department reported Friday. There was a net loss of 63,000 jobs, which is the biggest decline since March 2003 and weaker than the revised 22,000 jobs lost in January. Economists had forecast a gain of 25,000 jobs. The weak report fueled already mounting recession fears and is likely to keep the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates further when it meets later this month.
How Bad Has Job Growth Really Been Over the Last 8 Years?
Source: www.nytimes.com, Alan B. Krueger, Princeton Economist, October 6, 2008
According to one government survey, the United States added 4.8 million jobs since the start of the Bush administration in January 2001. But wait. According to another government survey, the United States added 7.5 million jobs in the same period. Although job growth is anemic by either reckoning, the record is significantly worse if judged by the first survey.

EPA proposes GHG reporting as first step toward carbon tax
Source: www.examiner.com,. John Guerrerio, March 10, 2009
Moving toward a low-carbon economy is a long and arduous process, but the new EPA under the Obama administration is determined to jump-start the process and get the different sectors of industry to report their yearly emission as the first step in establishing some sort of carbon market. Whether that market is a cap-and-trade or a flat carbon tax is still up in the air, but the EPA is determined to begin the process
Political Elite Losing Touch With America on Global Warming
Source: www.heritage.org, Nick Loris, March 12th, 2009
Senator John Kerry stressed that the economy cannot be a scapegoat for not implementing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas reductions. He went so far as to call doing nothing a “suicide pact”. Forget cost and forget the recession, says Kerry: “Climate change is not governed by a recession, it’s governed by scientific facts about what’s happening to Earth. And you either accept the realities of the science or you don’t. You don’t enter a mutual suicide pact because the economy is having a hard time right now.” Senator Kerry has one thing right; it should be governed by scientific facts. But according to renowned scientists and climatologists from around the world, the debate’s not over.
Resetting the Economy

The past three months have seen a precipitous drop in production, a staggering loss of jobs, and an unprecedented decline in consumer spending. As the map below illustrates, the nation’s economic problems are widespread. While a few regions are still bucking the trend, especially in Texas, the overall picture is bleak.

A bill calling for the comptroller general of the United States to audit the private Federal Reserve is gaining momentum in Washington, D.C., as more and more representatives add their names to its bipartisan support. As WND reported, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, introduced last month H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, a bill requiring that an audit of both the Fed's Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve Banks be completed and reported to Congress before the end of 2010.

Science education still hot topic in TX
Source: Pete Chagnon – www.OneNewsNow.com - 3/19/2009
The fight to keep strengths and weaknesses in Texas science curriculum continues.
Earlier in 2009, the Texas State Board of Education voted to remove "strengths and weaknesses" language from teaching requirements. Under those requirements, teachers were able to talk about the strengths and weaknesses in evolutionary theory and other scientific subjects. However, opponents argue that permitting the teaching of strengths and weaknesses is a backdoor attempt to introduce religion into the classroom. Dr. Ide Trotter, spokesman for Texans for Better Science Education, claims to know who is behind the move to gut the strengths and weaknesses language.

School Calls Police to Stop Prayer by Students
Source: www.ACLJ.org, 3/16/09
We recently sent a demand letter to a middle school in Kentucky on behalf of a student who had been told that she cannot pray with her classmates before and after classes and during lunch. The situation arose after the mother of a student who attends the school was killed in a tragic accident. Many students gathered at school the next day between classes to pray for the family. Some teachers told the students to stop praying immediately
Teacher Wins Right of Access

We recently obtained equal access to public school facilities for our client, Patricia Munnikhuysen, a public school teacher who wanted to host a regular Bible study for the teachers and faculty of the North Tonawanda City School District (NTCSD) in New York. Last year, she held a Bible study for teachers, but was denied continued access when she reapplied for this school year based on the NTCSD’s written policy. The written policy cited N.Y. Education Law Section 414, which prohibited religious services or religious instruction

ATLANTA (AP) — Forget the baby boom. More babies were born in the United States in 2007 than any year in the nation's history — and a wedding band made increasingly little difference in the matter. The 4,317,119 births, reported by federal researchers Wednesday, topped a record first set in 1957 at the height of the baby boom.

The Obama administration and other proponents of a United Nations statement that calls for the decriminalization of homosexuality claim it merely targets the seven countries that put homosexuals to death. But one pro-family activist warns the document elevates homosexual behavior to skin color and religious belief.
