The Rise of the Divine State
Source: American Vision, Gary DeMar, Feb. 17, 2009
While the extremes of Adolf Hitler’s regime may seem like a radical comparison to present-day America, there is much about our own social and political condition that should worry us. Herbert Schlossberg’s masterful study of power in his book Idols for Destruction is both prophetic and frightening:

The Liberty Amendment

ARTICLE THE TENTH - The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution or prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
No fundamental provision of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights is more neglected—or thoroughly violated—today than the Tenth Amendment. It is violated in spirit and in practice. Its violation is advocated implicitly and explicitly: in the teaching of American history and government, in legal theory, in what passes for “Constitutional Law,” and in the functioning of everyday American politics and government.

Making a monkey out of Christians
Source: WorldNet Daily Exclusive Commentary by Dave Welch, Feb. 17, 2009
I recall being somewhat taken aback some years ago as I sat with a group of pastors in a large Midwest city, after a pastor of a large "conservative" evangelical church shared an experience. He had preached against abortion, special rights for sexual behavior and other "controversial" topics, but he said by far the largest negative reaction he ever had from within his congregation was when he took on Darwinian evolution.

Reporting from Chicago -- A task force of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America recommended today that its leaders officially recognize same-sex unions and allow gays in committed relationships to serve as clergy. The report stops short of pushing for a liturgical rite for gay unions and doesn't use the word marriage. The recommendation is slated for a vote at a church-wide assembly in August.
