Seven Reasons Not to Celebrate Abe's 200th

SHOW PREMISE: The Mythical Lincoln

Source: Lew Rockwall.com, by Thomas J. DiLorenzo, Feb 12, 2002

Every February 12 Americans think they are celebrating Lincoln’s birthday. But what they are really celebrating is the birth of the Leviathan state that Lincoln, more than anyone else, is responsible for bringing about. No wonder federal politicos have made his birth date a national holiday, engraved his face is on Mount Rushmore, built a Venus-like statue of him in Washington, D.C., and put his mugshot on the five dollar bill.  More than 130 years of government propaganda has hidden this fact from the American people by creating a Mythical Lincoln that never existed.

Lincoln Speaks Affirmatively to Illinois Colonization Society

Source: The Lincoln Institute

The next year, Lincoln spoke before the local colonization society at the Presbyterian Church and addressed the annual meeting of the Illinois State Colonization Society in Springfield in 1855. Two years later, the society elected him one of its eleven managers." Mr. Lincoln gave a speech in June 1857 in the State Capitol in Springfield:

“I have said that the separation of the races is the only perfect preventive of amalgamation. I have no right to say all the members of the Republican party are in favor of this, nor to say that as a party they are in favor of it. There is nothing in their platform directly on the subject. But I can say a very large proportion of its members are for it, and that the chief plank in their platform — opposition to the spread of slavery — is most favorable to that separation.”

Source: The Examiner, Jim Kouri, Law Enforcement Examiner

With a liberal Democrat now sitting in the Oval Office and both houses of the US Congress boasting Democrat majorities, lawmakers in Washington, DC and around the country are displaying renewed interest in gun control legislation, according to sources within both law enforcement and gun owner rights communities.

Culling the Herd: Misanthropic Environmentalism

Source: Breakpoint, Chuck Colson, 2/5/2009

On Tuesday, I told BreakPoint listeners that, according to NASA’s James Hansen, President Obama has just four years to save the world from the catastrophic effects of man-made global warming.  Well, at least one environmental icon disagrees. James Lovelock thinks it’s already too late. All we can do is try to make it through the “culling.” You heard me correctly—culling, as in, “to reduce the size of a herd by killing the weaker members.”

Good News: Parents Use Internet to Influence Schools

Source: CitizenLink, 2/2/09

Some parents think it's impossible to stand up for truth in public schools and actually get their voices heard.  Michelle Turner and hundreds of others in Montgomery County, Md., know better. When they were ignored, they tapped the power of the Web.  Turner learned about a pro-gay curriculum by volunteering on a citizen’s advisory committee. But she was outnumbered.  “This is enough," she said. "This has gone too far. People’s voices are not being heard. Parents are not being heard.”

Giant steps toward a government takeover of the health-care system?

Source: ERLC, Richard Land, Feb 3, 2009

The new SCHIP legislation is nothing less than a vehicle to advance “socialized medicine” by stealth. The program’s purpose, when it was passed by a Republican-controlled Congress in 1997, was to assist in subsidizing health care for children in families whose incomes made them ineligible for Medicaid but who couldn’t afford private health insurance. The public insurance program, which was crafted to provide insurance coverage for children of working-poor families, may soon grow dramatically, nearly tripling in size by 2013.

A National Day of Freedom

Source: American Vision, Joel McDurmon, 2/6/09

Sunday, February 1, 2009, was the 60th anniversary of the National Day of Liberty. Officials chose the particular date of February 1 because it was on that day that President Lincoln (besides his many flaws) signed the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution outlawing slavery. The commemorative day was conceived of and first informally celebrated by a former slave, Major Richard R. Wright, who wished for a yearly commemoration of the event. A year after his death, Truman signed a bill (July 1948) proclaiming the observation on Feb. 1.

Faith-Based Office Politics

Halfway through his remarks at this morning's National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama made a stunning, pro-life statement. "Some of our beliefs will never be the same," he said. "...but no matter what we choose to believe, let us remember that... [t]here is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being." In that instant, many of us were struck by how powerful Barack Obama's voice could be if he moved beyond rhetoric and harnessed all his hope, eloquence, and enthusiasm to lead this nation toward a culture of life.  (Listen to Obama’s speech)

Rep. Sally Kern files resolution against federal abortion law

Source: Tulsa Beacon, February 3rd, 2009

State Rep. Sally Kern filed a resolution stating opposition to an abortion rights law that president-elect Barack Obama said he would sign into law once in office.  The federal “Freedom of Choice Act” would classify abortion as a fundamental right in the same category as the right of free speech and the right to vote. The new classification would in turn invalidate all state laws that interfere with abortion.

Families should only have two children, says green guru

Source: Scotsman, UK, 02 February 2009

JONATHON Porritt, the leading environmentalist, has said couples who have large families are "irresponsible" and that we should all limit ourselves to two children in order to help save the planet.

But his argument, in a newspaper article, brought an angry reaction yesterday.

It upset many parents, who feared it risked putting the UK on a par with communist China, where couples are limited to just one child each.

Good News: Communities Crack Down on Sex Shops

Source: CitizenLink, Feb 2, 2009

Two Southern communities are demonstrating what people can do to shield themselves from sexually oriented businesses.  In Coweta County, near Atlanta, officials are tightening rules on sex shops by limiting the amount of pornographic material they can own and by clarifying what qualifies as a sexually oriented business.  “This is another example of the success communities can have when they enact strong, constitutionally sound ordinances," said Daniel Weiss, senior analyst for media and sexuality at Focus on the Family Action. "People do not have to sit idly by while pornographers destroy their communities.”
